Question 1

What types of pipes does Wasser Pipes manufacture?

Accepted Answer

Wasser Pipes covers three piping families. PP-R includes the plain standard range, UV Protected, Composite, UV Composite and Thermal Insulated pipes. PVC-U includes S.W.R. drainage pipes, Pressure pipes and Acoustic pipes. HDPE pipes are produced for water and gas from 20 mm to 110 mm.

Question 2

What is the difference between PP-R, HDPE and PVC-U pipes?

Accepted Answer

PP-R is polypropylene random copolymer, used for hot and cold water inside buildings. HDPE is high-density polyethylene, joined by heat fusion into leak-free joints and supplied in long lengths for water and gas mains. PVC-U is unplasticised PVC, used for pressurised cold water supply and for soil, waste and rainwater drainage.

Question 3

Which Wasser pipe is suitable for hot and cold water?

Accepted Answer

The PP-R range. Standard PP-R pipes can be used in cold and hot water facilities. PP-R Composite pipes are suitable for hot and cold water transfers in buildings as well as under-floor and central heating. PP-R Thermal Insulated pipes are made to attain better insulation than normal PP-R for hot and cold water.

Question 4

Which pipe is suitable for outdoor UV exposure?

Accepted Answer

PP-R UV Protected and PP-R UV Composite pipes. Both carry a UV protected layer comprised of UV resistant materials, which protects the pipe from flaking when exposed to sunlight over time. The UV Composite pipe adds a composite layer that gives rigidity with memory so runs can be laid straighter.

Question 5

Which Wasser pipes are used for drainage?

Accepted Answer

The PVC-U S.W.R. range, which stands for Soil, Waste and Rainwater. It is supplied in golden brown, grey and white, in 6 metre lengths. The PVC-U Acoustic pipe is also a drainage pipe, designed to reduce the noise that drainage makes inside a building.

Question 6

What is the difference between grey, white and golden-brown SWR pipes?

Accepted Answer

The colour indicates where the pipe is installed. Golden brown drainage pipes are used in underground waste and rainwater systems. Grey pipes are used in above ground waste and rainwater systems. White pipes are used in both above ground and underground systems, and cannot be manufactured from recycled PVC.

Question 7

Which pipe helps reduce drainage noise?

Accepted Answer

The PVC-U Acoustic pipe. It is a multilayer pipe with outer and inner layers of conventional PVC and a middle hollow grid layer in the 110 mm and 160 mm sizes. That hollow layer gives an acoustic effect and reduces noise levels by more than 6 dB, while internal vanes reduce vortex and direct the flow.

Question 8

How do I choose the correct pipe diameter and pressure rating?

Accepted Answer

Start from the application, then the temperature and pressure the line will actually see. The published data gives maximum operating pressures that fall as temperature rises, along with outside diameter, inside diameter and wall thickness for each size. Final pipe sizing and pressure selection should be confirmed by a qualified plumber or engineer.

Question 9

Can Wasser Pipes be used for residential and infrastructure projects?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Astral Industries Limited has a client base country-wide which includes hospitals, institutions, commercial offices, government parastatals, residential areas and farms. The range spans in-building plumbing in PP-R, drainage in PVC-U, and pressure mains in HDPE and PVC-U.
